Inter-Library Loans

All public libraries in Newfoundland and Labrador provide Inter-Library Loans (ILL) services to other public libraries in the province.

How to Request an Item Through ILL

If you find that your local library does not have an item that you want, you can request it through ILL from another public library in the system.

You will need to notify your local library about which item you want to request and they will request it from the location for you.

Items that can be requested through Inter-Library Loans are:

  • Books
  • DVDS and Videos
  • Magazines
  • Audio Books

The lending period for Inter-Library Loans is 21 days (3 weeks) but this can vary depending on the lending library.

Charges

There is no charge for Inter-Library Loan services if the books are for personal use. For-profit businesses will be expected to cover all charges. All patrons requesting a photocopied newspaper or magazine article will be charged $5.00 for each article, upon receipt of all photocopied material.

To find out more, contact a Library near you.

Inter-Library Loans from Libraries Outside of the NLPL Library System and Out of the Province

If the public library system does not have a particular item, you can request it from outside the public library system which would include the College of the North Atlantic or Memorial University of Newfoundland or government libraries in the province.

You can also request an item from locations outside of the province. Loan periods are determined by the lending library.
